Petra (rock in Greek) is an archaeological site in Jordan. It is located approximately at

250 km from the South of the capital, Amman. In the VIII century Petra was abandoned

and in 1812 the archaeological site was revealed to the Western world. The numerous

carved facades of the rock, which, generally, can be related to sepulchers, make it a

unique monument. In 1985, Petra was announced by UNESCO heritage of the humanity.

In addition, in 2007, Petra was declared one of the Modern World’s Seven Wonders
